golf for beginners, driving range, driving ranges, golf driving range

Our #1 beginner golf tip is to just get out on the driving range and practice. But why does it seem so complicated? Been there. Let us break it down for you:

1.

FIND A DRIVING RANGE

As we do for many (most?) things in life, google it. Search for a public driving range near you. If you're in a colder climate, many locations offer cover and even heated stalls.

2.

FIND THE PRO SHOP

When you get to the range, locate the pro shop. This is a small building somewhere near the entrance, where you can buy apparel, drinks, snacks, and... driving range balls! Leave your golf bag outside of the shop, no need to be clippety-clampeting in there with all that gear.

Ask the attendant for a bucket of balls.

Here's how it works. Balls come in small (~$8) and large (~$12) buckets. With your purchase, you'll get an empty bucket, and a ticket or a token. In some cases, they'll give you the full bucket of balls right there.

Proceed to step 3, gf.

3.

LOCATE THE BALL MACHINE

If you're still ball-less, locate the ball machine (aka, the rickety, old af looking vending machine).  This is often somewhere right outside the pro shop.

V important step:

Insert your bucket under the ball machine. This will help you avoid a thousand golf balls spewing everywhere, which we'd like to avoid.

Insert your token or ticket number and the golf balls will begin dispensing.

4.

GET ON UP THERE

Grab your balls and your bag, and head to the driving range "stalls." If there are no empty stalls, look for someone who is nearing the end of their ball supply. You can stand or sit in the area behind them (outside of the designated hitting range) until they leave.

Drop your clubs in the designated bag spot, usually a metal frame right behind your stall. Place the bucket of balls over where you'll be hitting.

5.

SWING YOUR HEART OUT

Enjoy the bliss of un-interrupted golf swingin'. Pop in some headphones and listen to your favorite podcast or playlist and zone out.

And remember, no one is watching you. Everyone is too focused on themselves.
